Feature articles should run about 2,500 words and columns should run about 1,000 words.
Upon editor in chief’s acceptance of article, please e-mail a Word file of the article and e-mail/fax hard copies of any accompanying charts/graphics (plotting points should be supplied for complex line graphics). Article should be text-only—no graphics embedded in text.

Clearly label the hard copies of accompanying charts or graphs (i.e., Figure 1), and be sure all graphics are referenced in text where appropriate (“see Figure 2,” etc.). All charts and graphs must include a title and source, even if the source is the company submitting the article.
Mortgage Banking uses Associated Press (AP) style. In addition, please do not use footnotes. Include subheads to help set off transitions from one subject to another throughout the article. Spell out all acronyms and use trademark or service mark symbols on first reference—for example, “Fannie Mae’s Desktop Underwriter® (DU).” Use full names and titles of people being quoted, full names of any companies plus the company locations on first reference.
Include brief biographical information for each author at the end of the article. This should include the author’s name, title, company name and location, and e-mail address (if desired). A brief description of the company is permitted. The editor in chief reserves the right to condense biographical information as necessary.
An edited version of the article will be e-mailed back to the author prior to publication. This version will include queries from the editor in chief, embedded in the text. The author will be asked to type answers/edits into the Word document using the Track Changes tool, and return it to us within a short period of time—generally one to two days.
All authors will be asked to sign a copyright agreement assigning MBA the right to publish and reprint any article submitted to Mortgage Banking magazine.
Two copies of the magazine will be mailed to the author as soon as they become available from the printer. A copy will also be sent to the author’s representative, if applicable. A reasonable number of additional copies may be requested from the editor in chief.
Freelance authors’ fees must be negotiated with the editor in chief prior to submission of the article. Please include on invoice your full name and address, Social Security number/tax identification number, and MBA’s full address. Invoices may be mailed or e-mailed; faxes are not acceptable. Payment is mailed within two weeks of receipt of invoice.
